  • Activities at Mt Hart, Kimberley, Western Australia

  • Activities.

Swim and fish in the fresh water Barker River (at the bottom of the garden), stroll through eight acres of tropical heritage gardens, paddle the canoes past pandanus lined waterways, or simply read and relax in a hammock under our giant bamboo or a shady mango tree.

  •

Mt Hart is a photographer's delight.  We also offer excellent painting and bird-watching opportunities.
Take a picnic to one of our numerous secluded picnic spots in our isolated gorges and waterholes (only for overnight guests), then take one of our self-guided bush walks, or wander through Mt Hart's old cattle yards and the ruins of the original homestead.
While away the late afternoons with a spot of tennis on our new bush court (or watch  from the sidelines with a Gin and Tonic!).  In the cool evenings, go spotlighting for wallabies on the airstrip, then relax at the "Three Dingoes Hotel" for icy cold beers and tall tales as Taffy shares his vast knowledge of the settlement and exploration of this remote corner of Australia.

Mt Matthew, and Yellowman Gorge, are only very short drives from the homesteads. The majestic Barker River flows through the centre of Mt Matthew gorge’s steep cliffs of black dolerite rock. Here you can experience beautiful cascading waterfalls, explore delightful swimming holes and rock pools, go fishing  for black brim or freshwater prawns, or walk into the centre of the gorge admiring and photographing the fascinating and incredible array of bird, plant and animal life. Yellow-Man Gorge is a spectacular sandstone cliff face that towers above a beautiful pandanus lined waterway. It is an excellent location for bushwalkers, photographers and artists to explore and admire incredible age-old rock formations, as well as rare bird life.
